Instagram celebrity Veeramani has released a video lamenting that he left home after asking for a free sweet box and is now wandering from place to place on the road.
Veeramani, an Instagram celebrity from Madurai, recently shared a QR code on his Instagram page for a trip to Kerala and asked his followers to help as much as they could. He later released a video saying that, after accepting his request, he went to Kerala and returned using the Rs. 6,000 sent by his followers. After that, ahead of the Diwali festival, he openly shared his home address and mobile number, saying that his followers should send him a sweet box.
Netizens who took advantage of this began pulling some serious pranks on him online. They ordered items worth around Rs. 1.69 lakh to his address on cash-on-delivery, including TVs, refrigerators, washing machines, and smartphones. Not only that, hundreds of deliveries kept arriving at his doorstep one after another, with milk packets ordered through apps like Blinkit and Zepto, and mutton biryani and grocery items ordered through Swiggy and Zomato.
Moreover, since his mobile phone number was used to create matrimony accounts on some online platforms and to post advertisements such as free kidney donation, he continued to receive mysterious calls. Some people also spread memes on social media saying that JCB machines and army cannons had been ordered to his house via cash on delivery.
As a result, Veeramani, who was severely distressed, released a video in tears saying, “I am begging you, friends, on my knees, please stop placing orders. I unknowingly asked for a sweet box, I don’t have any money.” He also expressed anguish that the hard work of delivery workers was being wasted because of this. Following the escalation of these troubles beyond limits, reports emerged that Veeramani had locked his house and temporarily gone into hiding elsewhere.
He has reportedly gone to another state and, in his final video, complained, "I’m being made to wander from road to road. You didn’t even let me go home. My mother and father back in the village are getting into fights because of this." However, no one currently knows where he is. Even so, netizens continue to mock this video of his. This incident stands as a fitting example of the dangers that can arise from easily sharing personal information and addresses on social media.
