Chennai: “How will PMK members vote for the TVK alliance that includes VCK? What kind of arithmetic is this? Show two polling booths as examples for this. They are speaking like this with the intention that Thirumavalavan should not get any importance under any circumstances,” said VCK leader and Lok Sabha member Thirumavalavan.
Speaking at the resolution explanation public meeting of the Tamil National Awakening Conference held yesterday (Oct. 11) in Tindivanam, Thirumavalavan said, “The alliance with TVK today is a calculation made by time. Like the story of a fruit slipping and falling into milk, the coalition government has come into being and has fallen into the lap of VCK. I was the one who spoke of sharing power in governance and sharing power in authority 25 years ago. In a changing political climate, DMK has not taken any effort to preserve the alliance.
When the demand for coalition government gained strength, the DMK should have complied and retained its alliance partners. The DMK has not subjected itself to self-criticism. They say that coming second in the by-election is itself a victory. Is second place enough? Shouldn’t they aim to win? To win, alliance partners are needed. They must work out the coalition arithmetic of which party can be used to secure victory.
PMK has said that it does not support any party in the by-election. But in Madurantakam, people are saying that it was PMK that voted for TVK. Who conducted a polling-station-wise study on this? Did anyone analyze which polling station has more Vanniyars and which one has more people from the Scheduled Castes?
A younger brother had sent me some information. It appears that in one polling station with a large Vanniyar population, DMK received the most votes.
For the past 15 years, we in the VCK have been repeatedly saying that we will not be in an alliance that includes PMK and BJP. By saying this, I am actually helping PMK. Using the fact that VCK will not join an alliance that includes PMK as a reason, members of that party are rallying their community.
After the 2011 Assembly election, because PMK upheld anti-Dalit hatred, we took the position that there would be no further alliance with that party. It was Ramadoss who chose to forgo the goodwill we had. That is why both PMK and BJP are using the same casteist and communal election strategy. Therefore, we announced that there would be no alliance with these two parties.
When we say this, how will the PMK members vote for the TVK alliance that includes VCK? What kind of calculation is this? Show two polling booths as examples for this. They are speaking like this with the intention that Thirumavalavan should not gain any importance under any circumstances.
Before the Ulundurpet conference, they said that all the VCK members had gone behind Vijay. They said no one was with Thirumavalavan. They said the VCK camp was empty. But after seeing the Ulundurpet conference, Chief Minister Vijay called and praised him, saying, “You’ve intimidated them, sir.” He said, “The VCK members have placed their trust in me.”
