Chennai: The Hindu Munnani held protests at 19 locations in Chennai demanding that a lamp be lit on the Deepa pillar at Thirupparankundram.
The Hindu Munnani had announced that a protest would be held across Tamil Nadu on October 11, insisting that a lamp be lit on the Deepa pillar at the summit of Thirupparankundram hill. In this context, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Chennai on October 11 to launch various welfare schemes. In view of this, the protest was held yesterday (in advance) only in Chennai for security reasons.
Accordingly, Hindu Munnani state general secretary Manohar led the protest held near Chennai Madhavaram Municipality. State spokesperson Ilangovan participated in the protest held at the Kolathur Mookambikai meeting.
In addition, this protest was held yesterday at 19 major locations in Chennai city, including Manali, Perambur, R.K. Nagar, T. Nagar, Egmore, Pattalam, Anna Nagar, Villivakkam, Triplicane, Ayanavaram, Saidapet, Virugambakkam, Porur, Maduravoyal, and Velachery. Hindu Munnani functionaries and BJP members participated in large numbers.
During the Kolathur rally, Hindu Munnani state spokesperson Ilangovan told reporters:
Although the High Court ruled that lamps could be lit on the Deepa pillar at Thiruparankundram, the previous DMK government did not implement it and instead appealed against it in the Supreme Court. The current TVK government has also taken the same position and has halted the lighting of the lamp, citing that the case is still pending. The Supreme Court has refused to stay the High Court’s ruling.
Therefore, the TVK government should take action to ensure that a lamp is lit at the Deepa Thoon on the summit of Thirupparankundram hill on the coming Karthigai 1. It is for this very reason that the Hindu Munnani has been continuously fighting for the past 40 years. In this regard, the Hindu Munnani state president has sent a letter seeking time to meet the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister in person and submit a petition. If permission is granted, we will meet the Chief Minister and make our appeal. It is the government’s duty to implement the court’s verdict. He said this.
