Chennai: High Court Judge V. Lakshmi Narayanan has ordered the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department and the police to take appropriate action against anyone who attempts to engage in caste-based politics during events such as temple kumbabishekam.
In a petition filed in the Madras High Court by Mahendran from Ariyalur, it was stated: ``The kumbabishekam for the Madhura Kaliamman Temple, Karuppanna Sami, Periyasami, and Pariyara Devatha temples under the management of the Madhura Kaliamman Public Trust in Perambalur has been planned for October 25. For this, in 2018,
The renovation work that began at the start of the year is now nearing completion. In this situation, permission has been obtained by filing a case in the Principal District Court of Perambalur so that the public trust administration itself can carry out the Kumbabishekam rituals.
Therefore, he had requested that police protection be provided to conduct the Kumbabishekam without any interference from people of other communities. This petition came up for hearing before Judge V. Latchumi Narayanan.
Then, the lawyer appearing on behalf of the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department said that the temple has been under the control of the department since 1976. At that time, on the petitioner’s side, it was stated that no one would be prevented from participating in the temple consecration ceremony on the basis of caste, religion, or color. It was also stated that people from the Scheduled Castes would be permitted to participate in the consecration ceremony.
Following this, the judge said that the petitioner had not filed this case claiming ownership over the temple. Rather, he had filed the case saying, “We are renovating the temple and conducting the consecration ceremony, so provide protection.”
Therefore, the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department must ensure that no discrimination is shown on the basis of caste, religion, or color during the kumbabishekam ceremony, and that no one is prevented from participating in the kumbabishekam ceremony.
If people belonging to communities other than the trust administration associated with the petitioner are prevented from taking part in the festival, the police
such malicious activities must be nipped in the bud.
He has ordered that action be taken against those who attempt to engage in caste-based politics in events such as kumbabishekam, and has disposed of the case.
