Chennai: The Meteorological Department has said that heavy rain accompanied by thunder and lightning may occur at one or two places in four districts of Tamil Nadu—Nilgiris, Theni, Krishnagiri, and Dharmapuri—on Oct. 5 and 6.
Regarding this, senior official and scientist V.R. Durai of the Chennai Meteorological Department said in a press release: In the past 24 hours, rain has occurred at one or two places in Tamil Nadu. The highest rainfall was recorded in Adaiyamadai in Kanyakumari district and Uthukkottai in Tiruvallur district.
An atmospheric circulation prevails over the Gulf of Mannar and the adjoining southern Tamil Nadu coastal areas. In addition, a low-pressure trough extends from the Gulf of Mannar and the adjoining southern Tamil Nadu coastal areas to the east-central Arabian Sea, passing through northern Tamil Nadu and northern Kerala.
As a result, heavy rain accompanied by thunder and lightning may occur at one or two places in the hilly areas of Coimbatore district and in the districts of Nilgiris and Theni on Sunday (Oct. 4).
Moderate rain may occur in some places across 25 districts: Tiruppur, Erode, Salem, Namakkal, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Tirupattur, Vellore, Ranipet, Tiruvallur, Chengalpattu, Kanchipuram, Tiruvannamalai, Karur, Tiruchirappalli, Ariyalur, Perambalur, Dindigul, Madurai, Sivaganga, Pudukkottai, Thanjavur, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli, and Kanyakumari.
On Oct. 5 and 6, heavy rain with thunderstorms may occur at one or two places in four districts: Nilgiris, Theni, Krishnagiri, and Dharmapuri. Moderate rain may occur at a few places in 27 districts: Tiruppur, Erode, Salem, Namakkal, Tirupattur, Vellore, Tiruvannamalai, Villupuram, Kallakurichi, Cuddalore, Karur, Tiruchirappalli, Ariyalur, Perambalur, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Pudukkottai, Sivaganga, Ramanathapuram, Dindigul, Madurai, Virudhunagar, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli, and Kanyakumari.
On Oct. 7 and 8, moderate rain may occur at a few places in the Western Ghats districts, South Tamil Nadu, the delta districts, and in the seven districts of Erode, Salem, Namakkal, Karur, Tiruchirappalli, Ariyalur, and Perambalur, as well as in some places in the Karaikal region.
On Oct. 9 and 10, moderate rain may occur at one or two places in the Western Ghats districts. In South Tamil Nadu, light to moderate rain may occur at one or two places.
In Chennai and the suburbs, the sky will be partly cloudy on Sunday and Monday (Oct. 4 and 5). There is a possibility of light to moderate rain in some parts of the city in the evening or at night.
Temperature:
In Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, in one or two places, the temperature may be 2 to 3 degrees Celsius above normal. He said this in that regard.
