Chennai: The government is considering selling essential items such as pulses, cooking oil, spices, and soap at prices up to about 20 percent lower than market rates in cooperative sales centers, including ration shops.

Accordingly, essential items such as pulses, cooking oil, spices, and soap will be sold at prices up to about 20 percent lower than market rates. People can buy these items through cooperative sales centers, including ration shops. A system will also be established to ensure that everyone can benefit.
Under the new procurement system, the required goods will be purchased directly from cooperative societies, women’s self-help groups, and farmer producer organizations. In particular, items such as jaggery, garlic, pepper, mustard, cumin, tamarind, and fenugreek will be purchased directly from farmers and sold.
