Officials said that the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a chargesheet against four people in connection with the grenade attack carried out on November 25 last year near the women’s police station in Sirsa, Haryana.
The supplementary chargesheet filed on Saturday in the NIA special court in Panchkula names Rajbir Singh alias Fauji, Ved Prakash alias Bamma, Jeevanjot Singh Grewal alias Jyoti, and Chirag Takral.
This case, registered on November 26 last year at the Civil Lines police station in Sirsa, was later re-registered by the NIA on December 30.
Earlier, the NIA had filed a chargesheet on May 24 in the Panchkula Special Court against nine people, including Pakistani nationals Shahzad Bhatti and Sohail Ahmed alias Sohail Baloch.
The NIA said in a statement that this supplementary chargesheet includes details of the conspiracy and the individual roles of the four people involved in it, as well as evidence collected during the further investigation.
They have been charged under Section 61(2) (criminal conspiracy) read with Section 109 (attempt to murder) and Section 238 (destruction of evidence of an offence or giving false information to shield an offender) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023; Section 5 (making or possessing explosives under suspicious circumstances) and Section 6 (abetment of an offence) of the Explosive Substances Act, 1908; and Sections 18 (conspiracy), 18B (recruiting persons for terrorist acts), and 20 (being a member of a terrorist gang or organization) of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 (UAPA).
Through this investigation, it has been found that Rajbir Singh acted as the Indian coordinator of the cross-border network. The NIA said that he worked with individuals based abroad and was involved in collecting and smuggling weapons or hand grenades and narcotics in India. It stated that Takral, Grewal, and Prakash, who acted on Singh’s instructions, played a key role in transporting the explosives used in the grenade attack carried out at the women’s police station in Sirsa.
This attack was carried out by members of the Shahzad Bhatti network as part of a planned conspiracy. The attack was carried out with the aim of harming police personnel and creating fear and panic among the public.
NIA investigations have found that behind this conspiracy, individuals operating from abroad have been running a cross-border terrorist network.
The report states that the investigation is continuing to identify and arrest the other individuals involved in this conspiracy and to uncover the full cross-border terrorist network behind the attack.
