Chennai: In connection with the Vinayagar Chaturthi festival, the giant Ganesha idols installed and worshipped in public places across Chennai drew large crowds.
The Vinayagar Chaturthi festival, the birth anniversary of Lord Ganesha, the first and foremost deity, was celebrated with great fervor across the country the day before yesterday. In Tamil Nadu, the Vinayagar Chaturthi festival was celebrated grandly in Chennai. For public worship, giant Ganesha idols were installed at more than 1,500 places in Chennai, and prayers were held.
In Kolathur Poompuhar Nagar, a 42-foot-tall giant Vinayagar statue has been installed, made with 2,900 evil-eye Ganapati yantra plates and 2,800 sun chakra plates.
Thousands of people are gathering from surrounding areas to have a darshan of this statue.
Likewise, in another part of Kolathur, a 40-foot-tall statue made neatly from 12,000 conch shells and 2,000 shells has also been installed. In the Mangaram Thottam area, a 15-foot-tall Ganesha statue made of Rs. 10, Rs. 20, and Rs. 50 notes, and a statue decorated with Rs. 500, Rs. 200, and Rs. 100 notes and coins in C.I.T. Nagar have also attracted public attention.
In West Mambalam’s Lakshmi Nagar, a 11-foot-tall Navadhanya Vinayagar has been created using 160 kg of navadhanyam, including black sesame, white sesame, and pulses. In Manali, a 21-foot-tall statue has been made with 3,500 seashells, and in Manali Pudunagar, a 30-foot-tall statue has been set up using 15,000 clay lamps.
In addition, in Tiru.Vi.K. Nagar, a Vinayagar idol in the form of clothing has been installed using 300 sarees, 200 veshtis, and 250 towels.
People are immersing the small idols they worshipped at home in water bodies and the sea.
All the giant Vinayagar idols installed in public places will be taken out in grand processions with drums and music on the 19th and 20th, and will be immersed at the 4 permitted beach areas in Chennai.
