Chennai: Gram Sabha meetings are scheduled to be held on October 2, the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. The Rural Development Department has ordered that the resolutions passed in these meetings be uploaded on the website within 2 days.
In this regard, a circular sent by Rural Development Department Commissioner V. Amuthavalli to all District Collectors states the following:
In all village panchayats in Tamil Nadu, a gram sabha meeting should be held at 11 a.m. on Oct. 2, the birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi. The place and time of the meeting should be informed to the villagers in advance. Matters including panchayat administration, financial expenditure, drinking water supply, the 100-day employment scheme, restoration of ponds and lakes, and the Jal Jeevan scheme should be discussed in the meeting.
The resolutions passed in this meeting must be uploaded to the website by the village secretary within 2 days. In addition, to enable the public to learn about the details of the village council meeting, a new app called ‘Citizen Participation’ has been introduced. Awareness should be created so that the public can download and use the app. It has been stated thus.
Independence Day? - Meanwhile, in a circular sent to district collectors regarding the gram sabha meeting, instead of mentioning October 2 as Gandhi Jayanti, it has mistakenly been mentioned as Independence Day, and this has become a topic of discussion on social media.
