In the presence of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay today (18.9.2026) at the Secretariat, at an event held by the Department of Industries, Investment Promotion and Commerce, a memorandum of understanding was signed for the first Global Capability Center to be set up by Walgreens India Private Limited, headquartered in the United States, at the DLF Downtown Taramani campus on the newly announced OMR GCC corridor in Chennai by the Tamil Nadu Government, with the aim of providing high-value employment to 250 people in the first year and expanding in the coming years.

Headquartered in the United States, Walgreens is a leading global healthcare and pharmacy services company. Operating in the pharmacy services, healthcare, and consumer health products sectors, the company has proposed to establish its first Global Capability Centre (GCC) in India, specifically in Tamil Nadu. This centre, which will focus on technology and business services, is set to be established at the DLF Downtown Taramani campus, located along the newly announced OMR GCC corridor by the Government of Tamil Nadu.
In the presence of the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, a memorandum of understanding was signed to establish this company’s Global Capability Center, with high-value employment for 250 people in the first year and expansion in the years ahead. It is noteworthy that this company’s first-ever Global Capability Center in India will be set up in Tamil Nadu. This memorandum of understanding further strengthens the Tamil Nadu government’s policy of creating high-value jobs in the GCC sector, and Walgreens joining Tamil Nadu’s GCC growth journey highlights the state’s emergence as a global technology and business services hub.
During this event, the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu requested that employment opportunities be provided to the youth in second- and third-tier cities in Tamil Nadu.
At the event, Industries Minister S. Keerthana, Chief Secretary M. Sai Kumar, representatives of Walgreens, and senior government officials participated.
