Chennai: In the case involving the sexual assault of minor girls, Archana, the daughter of Gem Veeramani, did not appear yesterday for questioning by the Special Investigation Team (SIT).
Citing her health condition, her lawyer submitted a letter requesting permission for her to appear for questioning on another day.
In the case involving the sexual assault of minor girls, the SIT police have so far arrested 8 people, including Gem Veeramani, who is considered the main accused, Shanti, who is said to have aided him, her husband Mahendra Simman, and Ganesan.
With 12 girls having filed complaints against Gem Veeramani, the police have registered 8 POCSO cases against him.
As Gem Veeramani’s daughter Archana is also under the scanner, she tried to travel to Singapore on the 23rd without informing the SIT.
The police stopped her at Chennai airport and took her to the old Police Commissioner’s office in Egmore for questioning.
At that time, they investigated Veeramani’s criminal activities and the money transactions he had carried out to evade legal action. At that time, Archana suddenly fell ill.
Following this, she was admitted to a private hospital on Greams Road, and the investigation could not be continued with her.
In this situation, SIT police issued a summons to Archana, who was in the hospital, to appear for questioning yesterday. However, she did not appear yesterday. Instead, her lawyer Vignesh appeared before the SIT.
Citing Archana’s health condition, he submitted a medical report and requested additional time to appear for the inquiry. It is said that the SIT is considering this matter.
Intensive questioning of 4 people

More than a hundred questions were asked of them. The police recorded their answers both on video and in writing.
The investigation continued until last night. The police have taken steps to produce all four in court today and remand them again to Puzhal prison.
Lookout notices
Meanwhile, the SIT has issued lookout notices against five people suspected to be connected to the Veeramani case, to prevent them from fleeing abroad.
Following this, the SIT said the investigation would be completed soon and a final report would be filed in court.
