Ve The Leader organization president Annamalai has said that the initial negligence shown by the Tamil Nadu Police in the POCSO case against GEM Granites owner Veeramani, and the intensive action taken after court intervention, have brought the background of the bureaucracy to light.
In this regard, on his X page, he said, ``The Tamil Nadu Police, once praised as the best police force in our country, has in the past few years become a department that is corrupt, inefficient, and functions according to the wishes of politicians.
This is an example of how the Tamil Nadu Police handled the initial investigation in the POCSO case against GEM Granites Veeramani, a pedophile convicted of sexually abusing several young children.
Even though there was video evidence of a girl being sexually abused, the Tamil Nadu Police tried to close the case by ending the investigation, citing that they could not identify either the victim or the person who committed the crime.
However, the court refused to accept that report and also ordered further investigation. After the investigation was restarted, the police arrested GEM Granites Veeramani and those associated with him, and the girl featured in that video has now also been identified.
More importantly, details have come to light that many more people were affected in the investigation. It is also understood that many of them were minors at the time this sexual assault took place.
Through this, the shocking information has also come to light that these sexual abuses may have been continuing for many years. This case stands as an example of how much of a difference even a few honest and determined police officers can make if they choose to act.
After the court order, the swift actions taken by the TVK government are commendable. Yesterday, the Tamil Nadu Police arrested a former employee of GEM Granites, alleging that he had in his possession an obscene video related to GEM Veeramani.
This investigation should not end with Veeramani and those associated with him. Every police officer who helped protect him and act in his favor over the past several years, every politician involved in this, and every person who used their influence to try to dilute this case must be brought before the law. Reports have also emerged that a huge amount of money changed hands in this case.
For all these years, to bring to light all the people who allowed these criminal acts to continue, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) should be formed immediately. It is also very important that the Tamil Nadu Police does not repeat the mistakes it made in the past. The identities of all the people affected in this case, especially those who were minors, must be fully protected. The safety and dignity of the victims should not be compromised at any stage," he said.
