Chennai: Continuing environmental awareness initiatives, Annamalai, the leader of the We The Leaders movement, has announced October as “Women’s Safety Month” and unveiled special four-week programs.
Regarding this, on his X page, he said, “In a situation where the impacts of climate change are increasing, with the important objective of creating a better future for the coming generations, our We The Leaders movement leaders carried out efforts to build a clean and sustainable Tamil Nadu during the months of August and September.
Our leaders, with the participation of the public, carried out various activities across Tamil Nadu, such as cleaning public places, properly segregating waste, reducing plastic use, protecting water bodies, and planting saplings. These efforts have instilled in people the awareness that every citizen must take responsibility for their own surroundings, rather than relying solely on the government.
Activities such as beach-cleaning drives, fieldwork to restore important water bodies, environmental awareness rallies, and large-scale sapling-planting events carried out across Tamil Nadu have transformed thousands of initiatives into a movement for environmental protection.
As of 25.09.2026, more than 2,000 events have been conducted across Tamil Nadu, and more than 593 tonnes of waste have been removed. In addition, 12.74 lakh saplings have been planted so far.
The more than 12.7 lakh saplings planted in this way will contribute to absorbing about 16.642 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide by 2031 and offsetting about 27,278 metric tonnes of carbon emissions by 2046.
As a continuation of our social initiatives carried out with the goals of a drug-free Tamil Nadu in July and a clean and sustainable Tamil Nadu in August and September, October is now being observed as Women’s Safety Month.
The aim of the activities to be undertaken this month is not only to ensure that women live safely, but also to create an environment in which they can recognize their talents, gain education, achieve economic self-reliance, live with physical and mental well-being, understand their rights, and make equal contributions to the decision-making processes of society.
Accordingly, the month of October is divided into four weeks, and activities are carried out across five key areas: women’s safety and justice, education, economic empowerment, physical and mental health, and political and social participation.
First Week: From Skills to Self-Reliance: The aim of the first week is to help women recognize the economic value of their skills, support them in turning those skills into income-generating opportunities, and increase access to education, vocational finance, and market opportunities.
Second Week: Confidence and Healthy Living: The second week of October emphasizes the importance of women’s physical and mental health, while encouraging women’s participation in sports, recreation, and arts and cultural activities. The aim of this week is to strengthen their self-confidence, social connection, and expression of individual talents.
Third Week: Leadership and Community Participation: The goal of the third week is to help a woman emerge as a leader who can create change not only in her own life but also in the community around her. It focuses on developing self-confidence, leadership skills, and community participation.
Fourth Week: Knowing Rights and Participating in Solutions: The goal of the fourth week is to create awareness about what legal rights women have, where they can seek help when problems arise, and what common issues women face in their community, so that they can work together as a community to develop solutions.
This October, let us talk about the current state of women’s safety, health and mental well-being, justice, education, economic freedom, and social and political participation. Let us identify the real issues women face today. Let us discuss them. Let us implement practical solutions. Let us create a safe society for women. Let change begin with us; let a safe and equal Tamil Nadu be born. He said this.
