At the Devi Awards ceremony held in Hyderabad on behalf of The New Indian Express Group, 10 women achievers were honored with awards.
At the ceremony held on Friday at the ITC Kakatiya Hotel in Hyderabad, awards were presented to 10 women who excelled in various fields, including sports, medicine, heritage conservation, education, film, and the arts.
Since this awards ceremony was launched in December 2014, more than 480 women have been honored at 40 ceremonies held across 10 states so far.
Telangana Governor Jishnu Dev Varma, who attended this event as the chief guest, praised The New Indian Express Group for consistently carrying out such initiatives.
He further said, “To empower women, equality, freedom, safety, and dignity must be ensured.”
At the event, The New Indian Express Group’s Editorial Director Prabhu Chawla and Chief Executive Officer Lakshmi Menon welcomed those who had come to the ceremony and honored the women who received the awards.
The Governor, noting that he had known Prabhu Chawla since his time in Parliament, also praised the work of the Express Group, which has consistently recognized the contributions women make to society.
Continuing, he said, “In the country’s culture, a woman is regarded as the goddess of knowledge, the goddess of strength, and the goddess of power.
At the same time, respecting women should not remain merely symbolic; it should be reflected in everyday life through providing them equal opportunities,” he said.
He further said, “Women will receive true respect only when they are given equality, freedom, safety, and dignity. Empowering women is not only essential for social justice; it is also necessary for the country’s development,” said Governor Siva Pratap Shukla.
