At the Manur Panchayat Union Primary School under the Palani Keeranur police jurisdiction in Dindigul district, more than 120 boys and girls are studying. When the school reopened on Monday, the 5th, after the quarterly and first-term examination holidays, it was discovered that unidentified persons had defecated in and contaminated the students’ Sintex drinking water tank.
Without informing higher officials or the parents about such an act that endangers children’s lives, the school headmaster, Jayakumar, washed the tank with bleaching powder and covered up the matter for two days.
The shocking information leaked during the Parent-Teacher Association meeting and the School Management Committee meeting held at the school on Wednesday the day before yesterday. Outraged by this, parents, accusing the school of playing with the safety of students, staged a sudden siege of the school and took part in a protest.
As the issue escalated, Dindigul District Superintendent of Police Jayakumar visited the Manur Government School in person last night. After inspecting the location where the contaminated drinking water tank was placed, the security lapses in the school premises, and the boundary wall areas, he instructed the police to immediately arrest those involved in this act.

Following this, based on the complaint filed by the headmaster, the Keeranur police have registered a case against unidentified persons under three serious legal sections—endangering public life (Section 279), contaminating/poisoning drinking water (Section 272), and attempting to cause harm through poison/toxic substances (Section 123)—and are conducting an intensive search.
Following this, this morning Palani Educational District Officer Shanmuganathan, Oddanchatram Educational Officer, Block Development Officers (BDOs), and police inspectors visited the Manur school in person. They held an intensive consultation meeting with the parents and the School Management Committee (SMC).
At that time, the parents surrounded the officials and engaged in a heated argument, raising a series of questions such as, "Why did the headmaster hide such a major issue that happened on Monday without telling anyone for two days?" They also firmly demanded that Headmaster Jayakumar, who showed negligence toward the students’ welfare, be immediately suspended.

Following the parents’ uproar, officials and police assured the crowd that prompt action would be taken, including installing CCTV cameras and appointing a security guard. Although calm has returned after that assurance, police continue to be deployed for security duty on the Manur school premises.
