Union Minister Kiren Rijiju has urged the Congress party to apologize to the people of the country for releasing fake Indian Army videos that spread misinformation, including claims of Chinese military infiltration into Indian territory.
After the Indian Army pointed out that the videos released by Congress were fake, Kiren Rijiju strongly criticized the Congress.
A Congress party spokesperson had shared videos containing false information that Chinese incursions had taken place inside Indian territory and that some parts of Arunachal Pradesh were under China’s control.
Coordinated Inauthentic Behaviour Exposed ❌ Social media accounts are circulating a video showing Chinese vehicles near the India-China border, falsely portraying it as an unauthorised entry of Chinese vehicles into Indian territory. However, the Indian Army has denied those two videos. Congress spokesperson Ritu Chaudhary from Bihar had shared the videos.
One of the videos appeared to show Chinese vehicles entering Indian territory. The other claimed that China had taken control of areas in Arunachal Pradesh and that a senior army officer had said essential supplies were being denied to Indian forces. The Indian Army has denied all of this as false information.
That is, according to the Indian Army, the first video shows Chinese commercial vehicles entering the Nathu La pass in Sikkim — a location designated for India-China border trade — and nothing more; it does not amount to a Chinese military incursion into Indian territory.
The second video depicts the General Officer Commanding of the Spear Corps, Lieutenant General Girish Kalia, as if he were speaking about China’s control over some parts of Arunachal Pradesh.
The Army has clarified that the video was recorded during a press conference held in Kupwara, Jammu and Kashmir, on October 27, 2023, and that a fake video was created by twisting a video in which it was explained during that press conference how attempts to infiltrate across the Line of Control were thwarted.
