New York: India, which has criticized Pakistan as being a puppet government, has warned that if that country continues to engage in terrorist activities, it will have to face the consequences. India’s statement was delivered in response to the Pakistani Prime Minister’s speech.
The 81st session of the UN General Assembly is currently underway at UN headquarters in New York City, USA. Speaking there on Friday, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had stressed that India’s move to block and divert the flow of the Indus River into Pakistan would be considered an act of war, and that to resolve the Kashmir issue, a free and impartial referendum should be held there.
Taking the opportunity to respond to the Pakistani Prime Minister’s anti-India speech, Patel Gehlot, First Secretary of India’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations, said, “We have heard here some sanctimonious sermons on democratic rights and human values from a regime. But the capital of that regime is, at this very moment, being fortified against its own people.
There is a regime in Pakistan run by the military, by the military, for the military. Their puppets may come and go. But we should have no illusions about who holds power.”
Pakistan’s reality is reflected in its 27th constitutional amendment and in the lifetime legal protection granted to its true ruler.
The 27th constitutional amendment, passed by the Shehbaz Sharif government in November 2025, grants lifetime protection from legal action to Pakistan’s Chief of Defence Forces and Army Chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir.
Unlike the image Pakistan tries to project, we are confident that this General Assembly will understand what Pakistan and its policies truly are. Repeating lies every year does not make them true.
It has only been two weeks since New York City and the world observed the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. It is in this context that Shehbaz Sharif’s strange remarks have emerged. It is important to take this context into account, because Osama bin Laden, the mastermind of that attack, lived very close to Pakistan’s premier military academy.
