New Delhi: Retail sales of electric vehicles in August rose 52.9 percent year-on-year to 2,98,448 vehicles. As a result, the share of electric vehicles in total vehicle sales increased from 9.5 percent last year to 12.3 percent, the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations said.
The two-wheeler segment led the growth in electric vehicle sales last month. Sales in this segment rose 67.05 percent, increasing from 1,09,673 vehicles last year to 1,83,204 vehicles.
Retail sales of electric passenger vehicles stood at 30,696 vehicles last month. In the same month last year, the figure was 20,210 vehicles.
In the three-wheeler retail segment, sales increased by 25.28 percent, rising from 63,736 vehicles last year to 79,846 vehicles.
Based on data from the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations, retail sales of electric commercial vehicles stood at 4,702 vehicles last month. In August last year, the figure was 1,631 vehicles. This is nearly a threefold increase.
In terms of electric vehicle transportation in India, August turned out to be the best month ever. Retail sales of electric vehicles across all segments reached 2,98,448 vehicles. As a result, the share of electric vehicles in total vehicle sales rose from 9.5 percent to 12.3 percent. In particular, the four-wheeler electric vehicle segments also set sales records in August.
As far as commercial vehicles are concerned, August turned out to be an excellent month. Sales in this segment reached 4,702 vehicles, hitting an all-time monthly high. At the same time, sales of electric two-wheelers increased by 67 percent year on year. Even in a non-festive month, when sales could have been sluggish, they maintained market penetration of more than 10 percent.
With a share of more than 60 percent of total electric vehicle retail sales, electric three-wheelers continue to remain strong with a 65.3 percent contribution. At the same time, it is noteworthy that sales of passenger electric vehicles increased by 52 percent.
