Gakroj Janata Party founder Abhijeet Thipke has said that Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar must resign from his post within the next 48 hours, failing which a massive nationwide protest will be held.
Speaking to reporters in Delhi on this matter, Abhijeet Thipke said, ``To ensure that free and fair elections are held in the country, Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar must immediately step down. If he does not resign within the next 48 hours, a nationwide protest will be launched.
We will not back down until he resigns. Just like the protest we held at Jantar Mantar in Delhi last June, this new protest will also be carried forward. Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, who poses the greatest threat to Indian democracy, is the country’s biggest anti-national. He must resign immediately. Democracy is when people choose their own government. But ever since Gyanesh Kumar took charge, a situation has arisen in which the government decides who should vote and who should not. What kind of democracy is this? They have turned the very basic grammar of democracy upside down.
More than about 13 crore votes have been removed from the voter list. 13 crore votes is not a small number. This is about 13% to 14% of the country’s total voters. In the 2024 Lok Sabha election, the vote difference between the ruling NDA alliance and the opposition parties was only 2%.
Did Gyanesh Kumar deliberately carry out these deletions in order to artificially widen this 2% gap and ensure that the ruling party remains in power forever? Their fear set in the moment the BJP failed to win a majority in the 2024 election and was reduced to 240 seats.
They realized that the mood of the country was changing and that regional parties were gaining strength. Only then were the opposition leaders who had come together and entered the fray defeated one after another. Because 50,000 votes were removed in Mamata Banerjee’s constituency, she lost by a margin of about 15,000 votes.
In Stalin’s constituency, 100,000 votes were removed, and he lost by a margin of 45,000 votes. In Arvind Kejriwal’s constituency, 40,000 votes were removed, and he lost by a margin of 4,000 to 5,000 votes. In a situation where Pinarayi Vijayan should have won, the voter deletions in Kerala also prevented him from becoming Chief Minister again.
These defeats cannot be considered accidental. Uddhav Thackeray’s party was broken up, and the Election Commission very swiftly stripped it of its election symbol and handed it over to a fake faction that functioned like a 'shell company'.
In addition, the Election Commission engaged in electoral malpractice to ensure that the ruling party remained in power. We have no personal affection for opposition parties or for any particular party. But in a democratic country, if the opposition parties are completely destroyed, how can that be called democracy? How can that be a free and fair election?" he has asked.
