Chennai: Chief Minister Vijay has urged Prime Minister Modi to release the central government’s education funds of Rs. 5,110 crore due to Tamil Nadu without any conditions.
The foundation-laying ceremony for new projects worth Rs. 13,000 crore by the central government in Tamil Nadu, along with the inauguration of completed projects, was held yesterday at the IIT Madras campus in Chennai.
At that time, Chief Minister Vijay said in the presence of Prime Minister Modi: Our approach is that when the central and state governments work together, the benefits should directly reflect in people’s lives. We are working with the aim that the benefits of development in Tamil Nadu should reach all districts of the state beyond Chennai.
In the future, the Coimbatore and Madurai metro rail projects, which will help the economic growth of the western and southern regions, should be reconsidered. For the benefit of both states, approval should be given for the inter-state metro rail project from Hosur in Tamil Nadu to Bommasandra in Karnataka.
Thanks to the Prime Minister for announcing two high-speed rail corridors between Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Chennai in the 2026 Union Budget. In order to improve the tourism sector, approval should also be given for high-speed rail corridors from Chennai to Kanyakumari and Coimbatore.
Priority approval should be given to the projects of converting the GST road from Chengalpattu to Tiruchi, the Tiruchi, Panjappur, Jayapuram, Karur sections of National Highway 81, and the Karur-Coimbatore section into six-lane roads, as well as constructing an elevated road on National Highway 87 from Madhavaram to Cholavaram.
The Godavari-Cauvery interlinking project should be implemented as a national project. Steps should be taken to use Tamil as the primary language in the proceedings of the Madras High Court. Under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan scheme, the Rs. 5,110 crore due to Tamil Nadu should be released immediately without any conditions. This is what the Chief Minister said.
