Nagapattinam: In connection with the case in which 137 kg of methamphetamine was seized near Nagai, two police officers have been transferred. In addition, officials from the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence have issued a summons to one person.
In the case of the seizure of 137 kg of methamphetamine in Prathaparampuram near Velankanni in Nagapattinam district, Directorate of Revenue Intelligence officials have arrested four people and are investigating them: Bhoopalan, who was a TVK functionary from Chinthamani village, and his friends Sugan, Satheesh, and Manikandan.
Authorities have intensified the investigation on the premise that several more people may be connected to this smuggling incident. In this regard, a summons has been sent to Rajkumar, an associate of Sugan from Prathaparampuram Middle Street in Nagapattinam district. It has also come to light that the car said to have been used to smuggle methamphetamine belongs to Rajkumar.
He is said to be running two lodges in the Velankanni area and is also involved in the finance business.
Shiva, the driver of the Velankanni Deputy Superintendent of Police, and Velankanni police station woman constable Sangeetha were suddenly transferred to Thanjavur yesterday.
It is said that Shiva is a relative of Sugan from the Prathaparamanpuram area, who was arrested in a drug smuggling case, and that the diary seized from the lodge run by Sugan in Velankanni contained the names of Shiva and Sangeetha. However, no reason for their transfer has been officially disclosed.
