Tambaram: Residents say that in various areas under Tambaram Municipal Corporation, Zone 3, the drinking water shortage is more severe this year than in previous years.
In particular, in Ward 41 and the surrounding residential areas, there is no regular drinking water supply, forcing residents to search for water for essential needs, it is said. Residents are criticizing that adequate precautionary measures to tackle the drinking water shortage, keeping the monsoon season in mind, have not been carried out sufficiently in Zone 3.
They said that areas facing drinking water shortages should have been identified in advance and alternative arrangements made. While drinking water is being supplied by tanker trucks to the wards in the Sembakkam area on behalf of the Tambaram Municipal Corporation, the public says that sufficient drinking water has not yet been supplied to shortage-hit areas, including Ward 41.
Therefore, drinking water should be supplied immediately by tanker trucks in areas facing water shortages. In addition, borewells should be set up in necessary places to create alternative sources of drinking water. Considering the public’s urgent needs, a request has been made on behalf of the public and welfare associations for municipal authorities to take action swiftly to resolve the drinking water shortage.
