Chennai: Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president Manickam Tagore has said that unprecedented corruption, deterioration of law and order, derogatory remarks against women, and insulting alliance parties are the real reasons for DMK’s defeat.
Regarding this, on his X page, he said, “The reasons for the DMK’s defeat were corruption, the deterioration of law and order, derogatory remarks about women, and the way alliance parties were handled. Speaking at the DMK South Zone booth committee members’ ‘My Booth – Victory Booth’ training conference held in Madurai on 21.2.2026, DMK leader M.K. Stalin said that voters were removed in various states through Special Intensive Revision (SIR).
But in Tamil Nadu, the DMK was the movement that worked tirelessly like a spinning top to ensure that no one’s votes were deleted. Across Tamil Nadu, I am meeting the booth-level agents, BLA2s, appointed on behalf of the DMK.
On behalf of DMK, there are 75,032 BLA2s, 5,50,000 polling booth committee members (BLC), and 75,032 polling booth digital agents (BDA). He said that these 700,000 people are the ones who will ensure DMK’s victory in the upcoming assembly election.
But after the people completely rejected the DMK and handed it defeat in the 2026 Assembly elections as well as in the by-elections held now, DMK spokespersons are now saying that the removal of voters through SIR is the reason for their defeat. As to how the voter list revision work was carried out in Tamil Nadu, then Chief Minister M.K. Stalin himself gave a confession at the Madurai rally.
What kind of politics is it to say before the election, "We have completed the voter list revision work well, there is no problem," and then, only after the election is over and the public verdict goes against you, blame the voter revision work? Even in the 4th demand of the petition submitted to the President, it is only requested that the elections in those states where conclusive evidence of vote theft has been submitted be annulled.
Even though the then Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee refused to implement SIR in West Bengal, several lakh voters were forcibly removed under the label of “infiltrators.” Similarly, irregularities took place in Assam and Bihar.
A different kind of vote theft has taken place in Maharashtra and Haryana! But in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Puducherry, there have been no complaints regarding SIR. Unprecedented corruption, breakdown of law and order, derogatory remarks against women, and insulting coalition partners are the real reasons for the DMK’s defeat.
Even now, while DMK spokespersons continue to speak against SIR, DMK MPs have not participated in the protest demanding the resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner. Leaders of the Left parties in Tamil Nadu, along with VCK and MDMK, took part in the protest in Delhi and were arrested.
But not a single MP from DMK participated. What is the reason for this? The fear that taking part in the protest against SIR would mean antagonizing the BJP is the reason for this.
If the DMK truly cares about Tamil Nadu’s welfare, democracy, and secularism, it should take part in the protest demanding the Chief Election Commissioner’s resignation. Otherwise, people will not accept it if they first claim to have prevented voters from being removed in Tamil Nadu and now say that the removal of voters is the reason for the DMK’s defeat,” he said.
