New Delhi: There has been a difference of opinion among Congress leaders regarding the BRICS summit being held in Delhi. The BRICS summit will be held in Delhi from September 12 (today).
Russian President Vladimir Putin, Iranian President Pezeshkian, and the leaders of member countries South Africa and Brazil will participate in this summit. While grand arrangements have been made in Delhi for this conference, differing views have emerged among senior leaders of the Congress party regarding the summit.
Regarding this, the party’s senior leader P. Chidambaram said, “The last two or three BRICS summits have not yielded any clear or significant benefits for the country.”
Meanwhile, another of the party’s senior leaders, Shashi Tharoor, said, “It is important that the BRICS summit is being held in India. The 11 member countries in BRICS represent a large share of the world’s population and about 41 percent of global GDP.
Therefore, the BRICS platform is a very important international forum for developing countries. The fact that many national leaders are visiting Delhi shows India’s diplomatic and foreign policy strength. He said, “India hosting this summit is a matter of pride for the country.”
Meanwhile, BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari has criticized the differences of opinion among Congress leaders regarding the BRICS summit.
He said, “The Congress party always expresses a negative attitude toward the country’s international growth and progress. It is the Congress party members themselves who are exposing their party. At the instruction of Lok Sabha Opposition Leader Rahul Gandhi, they are opposing the BRICS summit.”
