The Ukrainian government has accused SpaceX of slowing down the speed of Starlink satellite services, affecting Ukraine’s military operations.
What impact will this have on Ukraine?
According to the information released so far, SpaceX’s Starlink internet is being used at Ukrainian terminals.
At present, the speed of this internet service has been reduced to 60–70 km. The Ukrainian government itself has confirmed this.
This speed reduction has affected the operations of Ukraine’s “kamikaze” drones, FP-2, Darts, Hornet, and Ram-2.
The kamikaze-type drones mentioned above are drones that target medium-range objectives.

Using these drones, Ukraine has been carrying out attacks on Russia’s air defense systems, logistics supply routes, and infrastructure in Crimea and border areas.
Self-defense too...
On the other hand, it was through this internet that Ukraine’s drone interceptors had been stopping Russia’s ‘Shahed’-type jet drones.
This single action by Starlink has affected both Ukraine’s offensive attacks against Russia and Ukraine’s defensive capability against Russia.
Thank you, Elon Musk! - Ukraine
Following this accusation by Ukraine, Starlink’s internet service has once again been changed to 160 kilometers per hour for one hour.
Expressing gratitude for this, Ukraine’s Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov said, “The Starlink internet connection at a speed of 160 km per hour has been restored again.
For Ukraine’s defense, completely removing Starshield’s speed limit is now one of the most essential things.
“Thank you, Elon Musk,” he had said.
In this post, Starlink and Starshield have both been confused.
Starlink belongs to Elon Musk’s SpaceX company. But Starshield belongs to the U.S. government.
What is Elon Musk saying?
Explaining this, Elon Musk said on his X page, “Starshield systems are owned by the U.S. government and operate under its complete control.
Only the U.S. military, and ultimately the U.S. President, decide any limits on its speed or usage.
But Starlink is a commercial service owned by SpaceX.
Starlink’s use is limited only to civil or defensive operations.
It cannot be used for offensive military operations. “Because that would not be appropriate for a commercial company,” he posted.
Thus, in this post, Elon Musk has clarified that Starlink’s internet service is entirely intended for civil and defensive operations, and that using it for military operations is not appropriate.
Helping Ukraine is SpaceX’s decision
A SpaceX analyst has explained this allegation by Ukraine. Elon Musk shared this explanation on his X page.
In his explanation, the SpaceX analyst said,
"SpaceX is a private company with no obligation whatsoever to help Ukraine. Nevertheless, when governments hesitated, it stepped forward voluntarily to help.

Starlink and Starshield are not the same. Starshield is under the control of the US government. It was they who made that decision last night.
Ukraine’s share of SpaceX’s revenue is very, very small. But the company bears the risks of operating amid Russian attacks and international political pressure.
The financial benefit they get from this does not outweigh the risks they face. SpaceX is helping only because it chooses to do so. At the same time, the use of the Starshield system is entirely in the hands of the U.S. government.
SpaceX has every right to set the boundaries for how its technology should be used. Because they are the owners, and they are the ones who bear the consequences.
At the same time, SpaceX is also actively cooperating to prevent Russia from using Starlink in a threatening way to defeat Ukraine.
The truth is, if it were not for Starlink, which protected Ukraine’s communications in the early days, their current situation would have been completely different. They should be grateful for that,” he said.
In any case, SpaceX has been helping Ukraine so far. But suddenly, for some reason, it has pulled back.
What exactly that is is not known at the moment!
