As part of the initiative to create corruption-free government offices, and in accordance with Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay’s order, a government order has been issued allocating Rs. 71 crore to increase the daily petty expenses for all police stations in the state.
The Tamil Nadu government has issued the following press release in this regard:
The Government of Tamil Nadu has as its primary objective the effective maintenance of law and order, the creation of a safe environment for women and children, and the preservation of public peace. The Tamil Nadu Police is effectively fulfilling this objective and is carrying out with full dedication the prevention and detection of crime, the creation of a drug-free society, the tackling of cybercrime, and the upholding of the rule of law.
It is noteworthy that, in the context of the increasing administrative and operational responsibilities of the police, the associated expenditure has also risen significantly. Taking this into account, it has become necessary to increase the contingency fund for all police stations in Tamil Nadu in order to meet the routine expenses incurred daily at police stations in the State.
By increasing and providing this contingency fund in this manner, the difficulties encountered in meeting the administrative and operational expenses of police stations will be alleviated, and dependence on unofficial sources for these expenses will be reduced, thereby helping to prevent and eliminate corruption.
In this context, based on the Chief Minister’s noble vision of creating corruption-free government offices, it was announced during the 2026-27 Police Department grant demand by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay that the contingency fund would be increased and provided to all police stations in Tamil Nadu to meet the routine expenses incurred daily for administration and operations in the police department.
In this context, all police stations in the state have been classified into three categories based on the number of crime incidents at each police station. Accordingly, the monthly contingency fund already being provided for the day-to-day expenses of police stations has been increased from Rs. 3,750 to Rs. 30,000, from Rs. 6,000 to Rs. 40,000, and from Rs. 8,250 to Rs. 50,000, respectively.
For this purpose, a government order has been issued sanctioning funds of Rs. 71 crore 1 lakh 54 thousand for the annual expenditure.
