Rahul Gandhi has written a letter to the President, demanding the removal of the Governor of Sikkim from office because he faces murder charges.
Ankita, who had been working as a receptionist at the Vanantara resort in Pauri district of Uttarakhand, went missing on Sept. 18, 2022, and her body was recovered from the Sila canal. As this incident shook the entire country, there was also controversy in the investigation into the case because the accused behind it had political backing.
In this case, three people, including Pulkit Arya, the son of Vinod Arya, who was then a BJP leader, were accused, and a case was registered under sections including murder, destruction of evidence, and harassment, after which all three were detained under the Goondas Act.
Based on the initial information, it was revealed during the investigation that hostel owner Pulkit Arya murdered Ankita, who had refused to engage in prostitution, and threw her into a canal, causing a major shockwave.
Ankita’s parents have been alleging that this murder is linked to Dushyant Gautam, who has now been appointed Governor of Sikkim. Since a case cannot be registered against the Governor, they intensified their protest.
In this situation, Delhi Police arrested and later released Ankita Bhandari’s parents late on Wednesday night.
Following this, Lok Sabha Opposition Leader Rahul Gandhi has written a letter to President Droupadi Murmu, requesting that he be removed from office until the case investigation is completed.
In that letter, “A 19-year-old girl named Ankita Bhandari was killed because she refused to compromise her dignity to a powerful person.
Even after 4 years since the murder, due to the CBI’s sluggish investigation, the question of who that powerful person is still remains unanswered.
Many people, including Ankita’s family, believe that Dushyant Gautam is connected to this case.
In such a situation, his appointment as the Governor of Sikkim has caused me great shock. No criminal action can be taken against someone who holds the office of Governor.
By recommending Dushyant Gautam’s appointment as governor, Prime Minister Modi has once again proven that he has no concern whatsoever for the safety of women.
I urge you to advise the government to reconsider Dushyant Gautam’s appointment and to prevent him from taking office until the investigation is complete.
“Do not shatter Ankita’s parents’ faith in justice,” he noted.
