As far as Puducherry is concerned, DMK leader M.K. Stalin has criticized the Congress party as a thing of the past.
In the video campaign he carried out in support of DMK candidate Sethu Selvam in connection with the by-election to the Puducherry Thattanchavady Assembly constituency, he said that whenever the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam has been in power in Puducherry, we have implemented new schemes for this state. In keeping with Leader Kalaignar’s promise of “we will do what we say, and say what we do,” we have worked for the development of Puducherry. Schemes such as the Thali gold scheme, the egg scheme in the noon-meal program, and the Laspet farmers’ market, which is functioning excellently before your very eyes, are achievements that will outlast the DMK government’s tenure. Keeping all this in mind, I request you to vote. This by-election that you, the voters of Thattanchavady, are facing is not a naturally occurring election. It is an election imposed upon you!
Chief Minister Rangasamy contested in two constituencies in the last general election. He won too. Legally, he was supposed to resign from one constituency, so he abandoned the Thattanchavady constituency. In other words, he washed his hands of you, the people who trusted him and voted for him. So this time, you too should abandon him. In this by-election, Chief Minister Rangasamy has fielded someone as the N.R. Congress–B.J.P. alliance candidate. You know better than I do who he is.
In the last election, you also know why the court barred that person from contesting. Chief Minister Rangasamy has fielded such a person as the candidate. On the other hand, the Congress party has also fielded a candidate of its own. If the NR Congress candidate is the owner of a corruption empire, everyone in Puducherry knows that this Congress candidate is the owner of a liquor empire.
Chief Minister Rangasamy takes up the statehood weapon only when he himself faces trouble. Rangasamy, who knows how to pass a resolution in the Legislative Assembly! Rangasamy, who cries out that officials are blocking him! If Puducherry needs statehood, why not take the Legislative Assembly members to Delhi and fight for it? Why do you say you won’t do it? Isn’t the Union government with your alliance partner? Didn’t you come to power by saying in the last election itself that you would secure statehood for Puducherry? All that N.R. Congress and the BJP have done to the people who trusted and voted for them is betrayal!
Another betrayal is on the field as well. The Congress party, which stabbed the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam in the back in the last election, is contesting here. In the last Assembly election, while remaining in the alliance, the Congress party fielded candidates against DMK candidates in five constituencies. Even so, the DMK overcame the betrayal. DMK candidates won in the Kalapet and Raj Bhavan constituencies. The traitors suffered a crushing defeat. The same defeat should be handed to the Congress party in this Thattanchavady constituency as well. The Congress party should not even get its deposit back. As far as Puducherry is concerned, the Congress party is a closed chapter. He said that these two candidates standing against us should be taught a lesson through this by-election.
