New Delhi: The Congress has announced that it will hold a “democratic protest” in Delhi today. It is noteworthy that a series of protests have been taking place against Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
All parties in the INDIA alliance will hold a march in Delhi today from Barakhamba Road to the Supreme Court. The strategy for the protest demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar has been changed today.
The Congress has named this opposition protest a “democratic protest” and announced it. Likewise, a strategy has now been devised to reshape the image of the protest.
This decision has been taken keeping in mind the participation of various groups in the protests that have been taking place in Delhi over the past two days.
This strategy has been changed in view of the arrests made in Delhi over the past two days and the number of people gathered on the streets.
During the four-day protest held by the opposition parties, only their leaders and workers were seen on the streets. The protest of the Cockroach Janata Party began on October 10.
Although this protest did not ultimately take place in full, thousands of young people could be seen gathering on the streets of Delhi. The opposition parties want to turn the protest against the Chief Election Commissioner into a mass movement.
Shortly before the protest, Opposition Leader Rahul Gandhi released a video message. In it, he called on social organizations and others to join today’s protest.
The INDIA alliance is holding another march today at 2 PM from Barakhamba Road to the Supreme Court. During today’s protest, participants have also been instructed to carry the national flag (the tricolor) in hand instead of party flags.
Reports say that Congress has conveyed this information to all its alliance leaders.
This protest is intended to appear democratic and to include participation from students and members of social organizations as well.
Similarly, Congress party flags were seen in large numbers during the opposition protests held in Delhi last week. This caused dissatisfaction among the other parties in the INDIA alliance.
In addition, many key opposition leaders have not participated in the protests for the past four days. This too raised questions about the unity of the opposition parties.
Taking this into account, several changes have been made for today’s protest. Accordingly, leaders and workers of all parties will hold the national flag in their hands instead of their party flags.
Congress asked all the leaders in the INDIA alliance to bring along their party workers.
Therefore, workers from other parties such as Mamata Banerjee’s, Akhilesh Yadav’s, and Left parties are also participating today. Lawyers and social organizations have also been invited to join today’s protest by the INDIA alliance.
This protest has been named “Chalo Delhi (Let’s go to Delhi) - March for Democracy.”
Through this major shift, the Congress party in particular is trying to present it not merely as a political struggle, but as a democratic movement in which the ‘Gen Z’ generation and others can participate.
This will enable young people and other ordinary citizens to join them in this struggle. With several strategies having been devised, it remains to be seen how effective these strategies will be for the opposition parties.
