Chennai: CMDA has approved the conversion of 21.37 acres of land selected for setting up the new Secretariat in Pattinapakkam from residential use to commercial use.
The Tamil Nadu government issued an announcement saying it has decided to build a new Secretariat in Pattinapakkam at a cost of Rs. 1,200 crore. For this, 25.55 acres of land in Pattinapakkam belonging to the Tamil Nadu Housing Board, the Chennai Corporation, and the Revenue Department has been selected. A portion of this land had been classified for residential use, a portion for institutional use, and another portion for open space and recreational use.
An application was submitted on behalf of the Tamil Nadu Housing Board to the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) seeking to change this land’s classification to commercial use. In this regard, a 21-day period was given for the public to submit their views. After that period ended, a technical committee meeting was held at the CMDA office on Oct. 1. At that meeting, it was decided to recommend the land-use classification change files for Pattinapakkam to the board meeting.
Following this, the 289th meeting of the CMDA was held the day before yesterday. In it, approval was given to change only the land classification of 21.37 acres out of the 25.55 acres selected for the new Secretariat project to be established in Pattinapakkam. In this meeting, approval was granted to change the land classification in 44 locations, including the new Secretariat project. In addition, CMDA officials said that approval was also given for 28 files related to administrative procedures.
