New Delhi: CJP founder Abhijit Thipke, along with office-bearers Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranga, has been released by a Delhi criminal magistrate, said the party’s legal affairs head Ratna Singh.
CJP had called for a protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar on Saturday (Oct. 10), demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Abhijit Thipke, Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranga flew to Delhi from Mumbai to take part in it.
As soon as the flight they were traveling on landed at the domestic terminal of Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, female police officers from the Delhi Police arrested them. Since the police had denied permission for the protest, they arrested all three of them to prevent it.
Meanwhile, today (Oct. 11) morning, they were produced before the Delhi Cantonment Special Magistrate. It has now been reported that the magistrate has released all three of them.
Delhi Police had registered a case against the three of them under Sections 126 and 170 of the BNSS Act. In this situation, they were produced before the Special Magistrate today. All three have submitted affidavits in court. It is also reported that the court has imposed a condition that they must not engage in any activity that would disturb peace and harmony for the next one year.
“The magistrate has released Abhijit Dipke, Saurav Das, and Asutosh Ranga. All three of them can leave from here now,” said lawyer Soudik Banerjee.
Earlier, when the police entered the flight they were traveling on at Delhi airport yesterday, Thipke, who was seated by the window, began recording the incident on his cellphone. Saurav Das was seated in the middle. Ranga was seated next to him.
On seeing the police, all three of them shouted slogans of ‘Inquilab Zindabad’ and ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’. In videos taken inside the aircraft, around 12 women police officers can be seen surrounding the three of them. Thipke questioned the police about the manner in which he was being arrested.
“Look at the direction the country is heading. They have come to arrest us directly at the airport. Even Indira Gandhi never did this. This is dictatorship. I have come here only to be arrested. Arrest me,” Thipke is seen saying in the video.
