Contrary to Tamil Nadu’s bilingual policy, the police flag day badge featured Hindi and English while excluding Tamil, and Naam Tamilar Katchi’s chief coordinator Seeman has strongly condemned it. In a statement he issued on this matter, he said, “By ignoring Tamil and imposing Hindi on the Tamil Nadu Police’s Flag Day badge, is this how the government opposes Hindi imposition and the Union government’s dominance? It is highly condemnable that on the occasion of Police Martyrs’ Day, the Flag Day badge worn on the uniforms of Tamil Nadu police personnel has completely sidelined the Tamil language and included only Hindi and English.
It is shameful that the TVK government has created a situation in which Tamil, the official language of Tamil Nadu, has no place in the Tamil Nadu Police. Following the letter sent by the Union Home Ministry on 29.09.2026, the Tamil Nadu Director General of Police issued a circular on 04.10.2026 instructing officers to wear a badge featuring only Hindi and English, which is shocking. Why did the TVK government ruling Tamil Nadu accept without any opposition the Union government's decision to exclude Tamil and include only Hindi?
Is this the way the TVK government will oppose Hindi imposition and the dominance of the Union government? Are Hindi and English the only two languages in the TVK administration’s bilingual policy? If Tamil cannot even be given a place on a small badge worn by the police of Tamil Nadu, does the TVK government have even the slightest sense of Tamil identity? For generations, our ancestors have struggled and sacrificed their lives to protect the Tamil language in Tamil Nadu. To ignore Tamil, which was safeguarded by the sacrifices of the language war martyrs, for the sake of a letter from the Union government is a grave betrayal of those fighters’ sacrifice. Does Tamil Nadu even need permission from the Union government to give Tamil a place?

What right does the Union government have to prevent Tamil from being included in the uniform of the Tamil Nadu Police, which operates with the taxpayers’ money of Tamils? The Tamil Nadu Police is a primary department under the authority of the Tamil Nadu government and under the direct control of the Chief Minister. That even in such a department the rights of the Tamil language could not be upheld, and Chief Minister Vijay has bowed to the order of the Union Home Ministry, is the greatest humiliation and disgrace that has befallen Tamil Nadu.
"The Tamil Nadu government must immediately apologize to the people of Tamil Nadu for the historical mistake of ignoring the mother tongue, Tamil, on the Tamil Nadu Police Flag Day badge. Therefore, in accordance with the bilingual policy, only Tamil and English should be included on the Tamil Nadu Police Flag Day badge, as has been firmly followed until the previous DMK regime. I urge the Tamil Nadu government to immediately withdraw the circular instructing officers to wear a badge without Tamil and to issue a new badge that gives primacy to the Tamil language," he has noted.
