Chennai: Details have been released regarding the purpose and itinerary of Chief Minister Vijay’s visit to the United Kingdom to attract industrial investments to Tamil Nadu.
In this regard, a statement issued by the Tamil Nadu government said, “The Tamil Nadu government is working with the main objective of making Tamil Nadu the foremost investment-friendly hub in Asia. Within 100 days of the government led by Chief Minister Vijay taking office, through the Victory Tamil Nadu Investors Conference 2026, the Tamil Nadu government has signed memorandums of understanding for investments worth more than one lakh crore rupees.
Multinational companies from various European countries have proposed investment projects worth about Rs. 8,491 crore, and these are also expected to create employment opportunities for around 5,690 people. This highlights the growing interest and confidence of investors in Tamil Nadu in the investment markets.
The India–UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), which came into effect on 15.07.2026, has further strengthened these initiatives. On the very first day the CETA agreement came into force, export goods were dispatched from Chennai, making Tamil Nadu one of the leading states in implementing this agreement.
Tamil Nadu has strong industrial capabilities across a range of manufacturing and service sectors. Through this agreement, a variety of new opportunities have emerged in these sectors. In particular, the textiles and apparel, leather and footwear, auto components, engineering goods, and electronics sectors are well positioned to take advantage of the growing opportunities in the British market. In addition, this agreement creates scope for securing joint venture partners and for generating new opportunities for technological collaboration and investments.
Companies from Britain have long been operating significantly in Tamil Nadu in sectors including engineering, financial services, and technology. Many of these companies have established manufacturing plants and global capability centers in Tamil Nadu and are operating there. Further strengthening such ties and expanding the operations of existing companies in advanced manufacturing, automobiles and electric vehicles,
Attracting new investments in the fields of electronics and global capability centers is one of the main objectives of Chief Minister Vijay’s current visit to the United Kingdom. This will create opportunities for high-quality employment in Tamil Nadu.
In addition, based on the automobile and electric vehicle manufacturing ecosystem that is already strongly established in Tamil Nadu, the Chief Minister has announced under Assembly Rule No. 110 that a world-class “Motor Sports City” will be set up in the state.
To advance this initiative, it would be beneficial to visit leading motor sports infrastructure facilities around the world in person and learn about their best practices. As part of this, a visit to the renowned ‘Silverstone Motor Racing Circuit’ is planned.
Through this, it will be possible to gain a detailed understanding of the track design, safety systems, and best practices for operating such venues efficiently and commercially, as well as to learn about the opportunities in motor sports infrastructure, sports tourism, and the related specialty vehicle industries.
The team led by the Chief Minister will depart from Chennai today (10.9.2026) and return to Chennai on 17.9.2026. It has been stated that the team includes Minister for Public Works and Sports Development Aadhav Arjuna, Tamil Nadu Sports Development Authority (SDAT) Member Secretary Meganath Reddy, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Industries Guidance and Export Promotion Bureau Deepak Jacob, and government officials.
