Punjab: Three suspended Aam Aadmi Party MLAs from Punjab joined the BJP in Delhi yesterday. This has come as a fresh setback for the ruling party ahead of the 2027 विधानसभा elections.
The Punjab Legislative Assembly election will be held next year. The Aam Aadmi Party is currently in power there under Bhagwant Mann. In this situation, Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh, the MLA from the Amritsar North constituency and a former IPS officer, along with Chetan Singh Jauramajra from the Samana constituency and Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra from the Sanour constituency, joined the BJP yesterday at an event held at the party’s Delhi headquarters. All three had already been suspended from the Aam Aadmi Party for engaging in anti-party activities.
Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh resigned from his MLA post yesterday morning. The other two had already left the party on Sunday. After joining the BJP, Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh said, “Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has ruined Punjab. The Aam Aadmi Party is finished in the state. Arvind Kejriwal and Bhagwant Mann together have brought that party to an end. A double-engine government (BJP government) will be formed in Punjab too,” he said.
Earlier, he had posted on X, “Punjab must be rescued from drugs, extortion, rowdyism, and corruption.” Following him, when Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra spoke, he said, “We have joined the BJP to transform Punjab from a Punjab drowning in intoxication into a rising Punjab.”
