New Delhi: The BRICS summit begins in Delhi tomorrow. The Chinese government has confirmed that Chinese President Xi Jinping will participate in the summit.
The BRICS grouping includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Iran, Indonesia, and Ethiopia as member countries. India is chairing the BRICS grouping this year. Accordingly, the BRICS summit will be held in Delhi on September 12 and 13.
All the leaders of the BRICS member countries, including Russian President Vladimir Putin, are participating in this conference. However, the Chinese government had remained silent about whether Chinese President Xi Jinping would take part in the conference. Yesterday evening, the Chinese Foreign Ministry officially announced that he would participate in the conference.
In October 2019, President Xi Jinping visited India. In June 2020, a major clash broke out between Indian and Chinese soldiers in the Galwan Valley of Ladakh, causing a rift in relations between the two countries. In this context, at the BRICS summit held in Russia in 2024, Prime Minister Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping met and spoke.
At the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit held in Tianjin, China, in August 2025, the two leaders met and spoke again. The SCO summit was held in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan, on August 31 and September 1. At this event, the two leaders shook hands and exchanged pleasantries.
In this context, Chinese President Xi Jinping is arriving in Delhi with a high-level delegation of 400 people to attend the Delhi BRICS summit. His visit to India after 7 years is of great significance. The Chinese president will stay at the Taj Palace star hotel in Delhi, while Russian President Vladimir Putin will stay at the Maurya Hotel. In connection with this, unprecedented security arrangements have been made in Delhi.
