New Delhi: It has been made mandatory for those receiving LPG cylinders at subsidized rates to complete biometric Aadhaar verification by October 1 in order to continue receiving them.
In this regard, a statement issued by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas said, “For domestic LPG consumers, biometric Aadhaar authentication (BAA) has been made mandatory from October 1, 2026, to receive LPG cylinders at subsidized retail prices.
This measure has been taken with the aim of ensuring that subsidized LPG domestic cylinders reach genuine and eligible families and preventing them from being diverted for commercial and industrial use.
As of September 19, 27.43 crore domestic LPG consumers, or 89.9 percent of the total, have already completed biometric Aadhaar verification. These consumers do not need to do anything. Their LPG cylinder bookings will continue as before.
Once this verification process is completed, consumers who have not yet completed it will also be able to book subsidized refills. During LPG delivery, the BAA can be completed at the distributor’s showroom or through the respective oil marketing companies’ mobile apps.
Indane customers can use the IndianOil ONE app, Bharat Gas consumers can use the HelloBPCL app, and HP Gas customers can use the HP PAY app. Consumers can complete this process themselves from home through these apps.
Consumers who do not wish to or are unable to complete the BAA can continue to receive LPG. However, they must register their preference through digital channels, including the consumer portal, mobile app, WhatsApp chatbot, or IVRS. Such consumers can obtain LPG at market price without subsidy in locally available 5 kg or 10 kg cylinders.
Initially, consumers were asked to complete the BAA by June 30, 2026. Later, this deadline was extended several times, with September 14 being the latest deadline.
Domestic LPG is being sold at a price lower than its cost price. The subsidy, which was Rs. 721 per cylinder in June 2026, was about Rs. 210 in September 2026.
To keep the price of domestic LPG affordable for consumers, the government provided Rs. 22,000 crore in compensation to oil marketing companies in 2022-23. It is providing Rs. 30,000 crore in the years 2025-26 and 2026-27.
Consumers who have not yet completed the 'BAA' process are advised to complete it before October 1.
