In a complaint filed by the Private Schools Association, it was alleged that during the previous DMK regime, crores of rupees were collected as bribes to grant permanent recognition to private schools. Former School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh was arrested by the Chennai Central Crime Branch police and has been lodged in Puzhal prison.
Meanwhile, while Anbil Mahesh’s bail petition is pending in court, the police filed a petition in the Chennai Special Court seeking to take Anbil Mahesh into custody for 5 days for questioning.

During this inquiry, Anbil Mahesh’s side argued that, "A fair and independent investigation is needed in this matter. As per the court order, Anbil Mahesh was not given first-class prison facilities, and proper food was not provided. Furthermore, since only the chapati given to other prisoners is being provided, his body weight has decreased by 2 to 4 kilograms.
Even after the court said so, home-cooked food was not provided. Therefore, Anbil Mahesh should be provided home-cooked food. He will not run away anywhere. Until the crime is proven, he is innocent. There is no evidence that he asked for or received money. It was argued that he has been imprisoned for political reasons."
Following this, Judge Sathiyamoorthy ordered that permission be granted to question Anbil Mahesh in custody for 3 days until November 2.
Meanwhile, when Minister Mary Wilson met reporters, he was asked about Anbil Mahesh.
In response, he said, "What was the act he committed? Corruption in education... 300, 400 crore rupees. But what they are asking there is that the food is not good.
Even if he had stated in the petition, 'I did not do this,' that would have been fine. But is Anbil Mahesh seeking bail saying the food is not good and all that? Is all this even an issue?" he said.

Continuing, when asked about the video released by DMK leader M.K. Stalin, who criticized the TVK government as a "spineless government, a government without self-respect," he replied, "It is unexpected for a leader with the maturity and experience of Stalin to use such words.
If a leader speaks like this, then the lower-level leaders will speak even worse. I see a former chief minister speaking like this as an act of insulting the people," he said.
