Due to the impact of Ayudha Pooja, the prices of flowers and other pooja items have risen.
In anticipation of Ayudha Pooja, the prices of flowers and other pooja items were seen to be higher at the Coimbatore flower market. However, with enthusiasm for performing the traditional worship, the public and industrial workers began buying the necessary items for the pooja from early morning itself.
In anticipation of Ayudha Pooja, various pooja items, including flowers, banana and mango leaf garlands, decorative items made from palm leaves, and evil-eye protection items for homes and vehicles, have been stocked for sale at the Coimbatore flower market.
Owners of industrial establishments, workers, and the general public in Coimbatore eagerly bought the items they needed. Traders from Kerala also buy the flowers sold at the Coimbatore flower market. With demand for flowers increasing ahead of Ayudha Pooja, their prices have also risen. Traders said they expect more than 20 tonnes of flowers to be sold during this period.
Due to the higher prices of flowers ahead of Ayudha Pooja, flower prices were seen rising in the Coimbatore flower market. Accordingly, one kilogram of gundu malli was sold for Rs. 400, kanakambaram for Rs. 500 to Rs. 700, channamalli for Rs. 450 to Rs. 700, and jathimalli for Rs. 500 to Rs. 700. Sampangi flowers were sold at Rs. 140 to Rs. 240 per kilogram.
Regarding this, flower trader Samikannu said that flower prices were higher in view of Ayudha Pooja.
Garland maker for 35 years:
Rajan, who has been engaged in making flower garlands for the past 35 years, said, “On ordinary days, I make 40 to 50 garlands a day. During busy periods, we work day and night without regard for time. Compared with last year, the crowd of people coming for Ayudha Pooja seems a little lower this year. However, since the worship rituals will continue, we are hopeful that people will come,” he said.
Although the prices of puja items, including flowers, were high, people bought the necessary items to perform worship at homes, shops, offices, and industrial establishments ahead of Ayudha Puja. As a result, Ayudha Puja sales picked up at the Coimbatore flower market.
