Chennai: Artificial intelligence does not have a separate consciousness like humans, said Swami Sarvapriyananda. A special lecture titled “Can Ancient Wisdom Answer Modern Questions?” was held yesterday in T. Nagar, organized by the Chennai International Centre.
Swami Sarvapriyananda, a monk of the Ramakrishna Math and a spiritual speaker, attended as the special guest and released his book titled “Dialogues on Mind and Consciousness.” The first copy was received by TVS Capital Chairman Gopal Srinivasan.
Continuing, Swami Sarvapriyananda said: “Who am I?” is the most important question human beings must ask themselves. The answers to this have existed in Indian philosophy since the time of the Upanishads.
The debates that took place among various philosophies, including Buddhism, Advaita, and Vishishtadvaita, have enriched Indian philosophy. At present, modern fields of science such as quantum physics and neuroscience are seeking answers to various questions about human consciousness.
How the human brain creates consciousness is still something that has not been fully explained. Although artificial intelligence (AI) has acquired many abilities, it cannot be said to have a personal consciousness like humans. Intelligence and consciousness are different.
Although humans are many, and their bodies, minds, and thoughts are different, the basic consciousness present in everyone is one and the same—that is the main idea of Advaita. All living beings are expressions of the same fundamental reality.
When one realizes this, hatred, jealousy, and hostility diminish, and love and unity arise. If one understands that all living beings are fundamentally one, the thought of harming others will not arise. Thus he spoke.
