As part of the initiative to create bribery-free government offices, the Tamil Nadu government has issued a government order increasing the daily petty expenses for all police stations in the state and allocating Rs. 71 crore in funds. In the government order issued by the Tamil Nadu government in this regard, ``In accordance with the orders of the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Thiru. C. Joseph Vijay, as part of the initiative to create corruption-free government offices, a government order has been issued increasing the daily petty expenses for all police stations in the state and allocating Rs. 71 crore in funds. The Tamil Nadu government has as its primary objective the effective maintenance of law and order, creating a safe environment for women and children, and upholding public peace.
In fulfilling this objective effectively, the Tamil Nadu Police is carrying out with full dedication the prevention and detection of crimes, the creation of a drug-free society, the tackling of cybercrime, and the upholding of the rule of law. It is noteworthy that, as the administrative and operational responsibilities of the police have increased, the associated expenditure has also risen significantly. Taking this into account, it has become necessary to increase the contingency fund for all police stations in Tamil Nadu in order to meet the routine expenses incurred daily at police stations across the state.
By increasing and providing this contingency fund, the difficulties encountered in meeting the administrative and operational expenses of police stations will be alleviated, dependence on unofficial sources for these expenses will be reduced, and it will help prevent and eradicate corruption. In this context, based on the noble vision of the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu to create bribe-free government offices, it was announced by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Thiru. C. Joseph Vijay, during the police department’s demand for grants for 2026-27, that the contingency fund would be increased and provided to all police stations in Tamil Nadu to meet the routine expenses incurred daily for administration and operations in the police department.

In this context, all police stations in the state have been classified into three categories according to the number of criminal incidents at each police station. Based on that, the contingency fund already being provided every month for the day-to-day expenses of police stations has been increased, respectively, from Rs. 3,750 to Rs. 30,000, from Rs. 6,000 to Rs. 40,000, and from Rs. 8,250 to Rs. 50,000. For this purpose, a government order has been issued sanctioning funds of Rs. 71 crore 1 lakh 54 thousand for the annual expenditure," it noted.
