Chennai: The All India Bank Officers’ Association has announced that it will go on a strike tomorrow (Sept. 11), pressing several key demands, including the demand to abandon the move to privatize IDBI Bank.
In Chennai, Tamil Nadu State Committee President Jawahar, General Secretary J. Roshan Karki, and President Vivek Raja of the All India Bank Officers’ Association told reporters: Preventing the privatization of IDBI Bank is a key demand.
As of the financial year ending March 2026, IDBI Bank’s total business stood at Rs. 5,50,494 crore, operating profit at Rs. 10,837 crore, and net profit at Rs. 9,514 crore.
The credit coverage ratio is 100 percent. In December 2003, it was stated in Parliament that the government’s stake in IDBI Bank would not be reduced.
However, at present, the government and LIC together trying to sell their 60.72 percent stake to foreign investors is an act that violates the parliamentary assurance. The government should buy back 6 percent of the shares either from the market or from LIC, and ensure that IDBI Bank continues as a fully public sector institution.
PLI (performance-linked incentive) should be provided equally to all employees on a proportional basis. A 5-day workweek should be implemented.
To press these demands, a one-day strike will be held on the 11th, and a three-day strike from Sept. 28 to 30. They said this.
