The AIADMK, created by former Chief Minister MGR and nurtured by Jayalalithaa, cannot be shaken by anyone; like a phoenix, it will overcome trials and form the government, said the party’s general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami.
On the occasion of the AIADMK’s 55th anniversary, he paid tribute on Saturday by offering flowers and garlanding the statues of former Chief Ministers MGR and Jayalalithaa at the party headquarters complex in Royapettah, Chennai.
Then, after hoisting the party flag, he distributed sweets to the volunteers and the public. Following this, at the invitation of the Youth and Young Women’s Wing State Secretary V.P.P. Paramasivam, Edappadi K. Palaniswami released the AIADMK history book in English titled ‘Dravidian Phoenix,’ written by law college student Sanjay Senthilnathan, and said:
AIADMK is a party that attracts ordinary people. It is essential for the younger generation to know the history of AIADMK. MGR was the one who embodied the saying, “Even if gone, one’s name should be spoken.” Former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa nurtured and protected the party he founded. Both of them faced many trials before and after coming to power, turned them into stepping stones, achieved success, and formed the government.
Likewise, even now, turning trials into achievements, AIADMK will rise again like a phoenix and form the government. He said that AIADMK workers and administrators should function like ants.
Next, Edappadi Palaniswami distributed welfare assistance, including sarees, to women. Party presidium chairman Tamilmagan Hussain, treasurer Dindigul Srinivasan, former ministers C. Ponnaiyan, D. Jayakumar, K. P. Munusamy, O. S. Manian, MP Thambidurai, B. Valarmathi, Gokula Indira, Agri S. S. Krishnamoorthy, and others took part.
‘Do not show the way to a place you have never been’: Speaking to reporters at the event, AIADMK legislative party whip Agri S. S. Krishnamoorthy said:
Former minister S.P. Velumani’s insistence that those who split from the AIADMK, such as Sasikala, TTV Dhinakaran, and O. Panneerselvam, should be brought back into the party is like showing the way to a place one cannot reach.
It should be understood that Sasikala, after saying she had renounced politics, later started a separate party. TTV Dhinakaran started a separate party and is in alliance with the AIADMK. O. Panneerselvam is an MLA of the DMK.
It is surprising that S.P. Velumani says how the AIADMK government can be brought back by those who support the TVK government. He said that party functionaries and workers will not accept people like S.P. Velumani, who are trying to weaken the AIADMK out of frustration that he could not join TVK and become a minister.
