New Delhi: Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw participated and spoke at the World Development Report release event held in Delhi yesterday.
At that time, he said: Focusing on key aspects such as artificial intelligence (AI) safety, deepfakes, and a human-centric approach, the government will release a consultation report on AI regulations within a month. This report will serve as the basis for AI regulations. India urgently needs such a framework.
Safety related to AI use will be a key part of this joint report. Harms caused by AI, including deepfakes, and a human-centered approach and skills development will be other areas that need attention.
Deepfakes have emerged as a nuisance that can create major problems in society. They create a completely false narrative. As a result, people are encouraged to do the wrong things and believe false information. The government has always said that AI and other technologies cannot be regulated by law alone.
Therefore, we need to come up with a techno-legal solution. The industry itself must take primary responsibility for issues such as online safety, user safety, harm to users, mental health disorders, and deepfakes. He said this.
