New Delhi: Following the attention gained online by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), a new satirical movement called the “Makki Janata Party” (MJP) has become a talking point on social media. Its name, the bee emoji, and the messages are reminiscent of the viral CJP.
The MJP’s Instagram account (@makkhijanta party) introduces itself as a political front formed “of the youth, by the youth, for the youth.” It says that it is neither against any political party nor aligned with any party.
CJP had called for a protest in Delhi on October 10, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Permission for this was denied at Jantar Mantar.
As a result, restrictions were imposed on access to many metro stations. Lawyers approached the Supreme Court over the impact on the public’s travel. On October 9, a three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice Surya Kant said that security measures should not be excessive. “Do not use a sledgehammer to kill a fly,” the Supreme Court said. This very idea became the basis for the name and satire of the Makki Janata Party.
MJP, in its posts, asks, “One day a cockroach, the next day an E... Is this how people are addressed in a democracy?” MJP’s website emphasizes capitalism, entrepreneurship, job creation, skill development, and economic progress.
