Ahmedabad: Adani Green Energy has said that it has increased the capacity of its battery energy storage system (BESS) operating in Kavda, Gujarat, to 6.63 gigawatts.
Regarding this, Adani Green Energy Executive Director Sagar Adani said: The storage capacity of our BESS system operating in Khavda, Gujarat, was 3.55 gigawatts in June 2026. This has now increased significantly to 6.63 gigawatts. In particular, this achievement, reached in just 14 months, will serve as an important milestone for our company and for India’s green energy transition. As the country’s power demand continues to rise, this system will help provide steady and reliable electricity when the power grid needs it most.
Through this achievement, our Adani Green Energy contributes more than 50 percent of India’s total battery storage capacity of 12.6 gigawatts. With this 6.63 gigawatt storage system, it can supply clean electricity needed by about 2 million homes for a day. It can meet the peak power demand of major cities such as Nagpur, Patna, or Visakhapatnam for several hours.
This storage capacity is equivalent to the battery capacity of more than 150,000 medium-sized electric vehicles. Moreover, it can store twice the amount of energy needed for the Delhi Metro Rail’s one-day power requirement.
The target has been set to add an additional 10 gigawatts of battery storage capacity in the 2026-27 financial year and to increase the total storage capacity to 50 gigawatts over the next five years. He said this.
