Chennai: The Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department Minister Ramesh has ordered the cancellation of the lease agreement of the lessee who built more than 50 shops on land belonging to the Thiruporur Sengannalmeeswarar Temple and rented them out.
In a press release issued in this regard, he said: Steps are being taken to recover 2.30 acres of land belonging to the Thiruporur Sengannalmeeswarar Temple in Chengalpattu district.
It was found that Nambi Raj, who had leased the land belonging to the temple, violated the terms of the lease agreement and, without the permission of the temple administration and in violation of legal provisions, constructed more than 50 shops and illegally sublet them.
Once this matter was brought to the attention of the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department, instructions were issued to take appropriate action. Accordingly, the lease granted to the concerned person has been cancelled, and notice has been issued to hand over the land to the temple.
Following this, under the leadership of Additional Commissioner Ratna, the temple land is being fully surveyed by surveyors.
Through this action, steps will be taken to recover the land belonging to the temple. It has been stated that the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department is continuing to take measures to protect temple-owned properties and remove encroachments to regain possession of them for the temple.
