V.S. Babu of the TVK contested against former Chief Minister and DMK leader M.K. Stalin in the Kolathur constituency and defeated him in the election.
Right after winning, his hand gestures, as if saying “it’s over,” and his moustache-twirling style poses went wildly viral on the internet. V.S. Babu, who has drawn strong opposition among DMK members, had also been provided police protection for security reasons.
75-year-old V.S. Babu recently experienced shortness of breath. Following that, he was admitted to a private hospital on Nelson Manickam Road in Chennai, and he continues to receive treatment.

Speaking to us, some party functionaries close to V.S. Babu said, "For someone who had been continuously attending the legislative assembly session, the AC cold there did not suit him. Because of this, he had been suffering from chest congestion for some time. He was also unable to eat properly.
On the night of Sept. 9, his blood sugar level dropped, and he suddenly became weak. As a result, his oxygen level also fell. Immediately, his relatives brought him to a private hospital on Nelson Manickam Road.
V.S. Babu came to the hospital in his own car without taking an ambulance. He also walked into the hospital. It was due to age-related weakness and a cold that he had difficulty breathing. As soon as he was admitted to the hospital, Chief Minister Vijay called him on the phone and enquired about his health.
'I will come and see you in person after returning from London. Take care of your health...' said the Chief Minister in reassurance. Subsequently, ministers Arunraj, Mari Wilson, Nirmalkumar, P. Kumar, and others, along with Speaker J.C.D. Prabhakar, came in person and enquired about V.S. Babu's health. From London, Minister Aadhav Arjuna called and enquired about his health.

For now, there appears to be improvement in his health condition. Doctors have expressed confidence that he will be moved out of the ICU in another four or five days. Health Minister Arunraj checks in daily with the doctors for updates.
That information is also being updated to the Chief Minister. Once he returns from London, the Chief Minister will also visit in person to inquire about his health," they said.
V.S. Babu, who has been admitted due to breathing difficulties, is said to have been depressed for the past few months. That is, party functionaries have been taunting him, saying, "D.K. Prabhu, who defeated Naam Tamilar Katchi coordinator Seeman in Karaikudi, has become a minister. Venkataramanan, who defeated BJP leader Tamilisai Soundararajan in Mylapore, has become a minister. But even after defeating former Chief Minister Stalin, why were you not made a minister..." It is said that this alone left him deeply hurt and exhausted.

"During the legislative assembly session, V.S. Babu poured out his frustration to Chief Minister Vijay, who discussed the development of the Kolathur constituency. The Chief Minister too reportedly expressed disappointment, saying, 'No one even brought all this to my attention...' Senior members of the TVK say that Chief Minister Vijay, who is planning to use V.S. Babu for the development of North Chennai, will soon give him due recognition."
