Chennai: Governor R.V. Arlekar proudly said at the launch event of ‘Kashi Tamil Sangamam-5.0’ that there have been cultural ties between Tamil Nadu and Kashi for several centuries.
In order to strengthen the cultural ties between Tamil Nadu and Kashi in North India, a special event called ‘Kashi Tamil Sangamam’ is being held every year by IIT Madras.
This event, conducted in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, will be held this year for the 5th time under the name Kashi Tamil Sangamam 5.0, from Nov. 28 to Dec. 12. The preview event for this was held yesterday at IIT Madras.
Speaking at the event, Tamil Nadu Governor R.N. Ravi said: Prime Minister Modi is carrying out activities that can strengthen national unity. In that spirit, the Kashi Tamil Sangamam event is being held every year.
All Indian people are connected to one another in terms of culture, tradition, history, and geography. There has been a cultural and spiritual connection between Kashi and Tamil Nadu for many centuries, since ancient times.
This event is being held to further strengthen that connection. Tamil Nadu has long-standing cultural ties not only with Kashi, but also with Saurashtra, Maharashtra, and Odisha.
These cultural ties need to be further strengthened, the Governor said. IIT Director V. Kamakoti said, “Under Prime Minister Modi’s visionary initiative called ‘One India, Great India,’ the Kashi Tamil Sangamam event has been held since 2022.
The theme of this year’s event is ‘Let us learn Thirukkural.’
In this event, which will be held from Nov. 28 to Dec. 12, 1,500 people from various walks of life, including students, teachers, artists, entrepreneurs, writers, and spiritual leaders, will be taken to Kashi.
Furthermore, we have decided to select 1,000 college students from across the country and provide each of them with a fellowship of Rs. 10,000 to prepare research papers related to Thirukkural,” he said.
IRCTC Group General Manager P. Rajalingam Basu, Central Institute of Classical Tamil Studies Director R. Chandrasekaran, industrialist Nalli Kuppusamy, and others participated in the event.
Registration can be done until Nov. 13
Online registration (www.kashitamil.iitm.ac.in) for participating in the Kashi Tamil Sangamam event began on Oct. 15. The last date is Nov. 13.
Based on a selection process involving Thirukkural and the Kashi series, as well as telephone interviews, 1,500 people will be selected and taken to Kashi.
They will visit historical landmarks, cultural centers, and spiritual sites in Kashi and Prayagraj.
