New Delhi: The court has ordered that CJP officials, who were arrested for trespassing into Jantar Mantar in Delhi, be kept in judicial custody for 5 days.
Allegations of irregularities arose in the special revision of the voter list (SIR) exercise. Following this, a protest was announced in Delhi by the Carpet Beetle Janata Party (CJP), demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. However, the Delhi Police, which denied permission for the protest, removed the Jantar Mantar area from the list of designated protest sites.
At this stage, CJP senior leaders Saurav Das, Ashutosh Ranga, and Ajinkya Shinde attempted to breach the security barricades set up around the Jantar Mantar area and enter inside. The Delhi Police arrested them as they entered Jantar Mantar carrying the national flag, and later produced them before the Delhi Special Executive Magistrate Court.
Following this, the court ordered that Ashutosh Ranga and Saurav Das be remanded to judicial custody for 5 days. At the same time, Ajinkya Shinde was released on a bail bond of Rs. 5,000, with the condition that he must not engage in protests that could disturb public peace for the next one year.
Earlier, on the 10th, Abhijit Dipke, Saurav Das, and Ashutosh Ranga, who had come to Delhi from Mumbai to take part in the protest, were arrested. They were produced before the Executive Judicial Magistrate. At that time, the court had stated that they must not engage in protests that would disturb peace for the next year, and that action would be taken if the conditions were violated.
