Chennai: It has been reported that 34 illegal water-sucking electric motors installed in Tondiarpet, Ambattur, Anna Nagar, Teynampet, Kodambakkam, Adyar, and Perungudi zones have been seized.
In this regard, a statement issued by the Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board said: To avoid pressure drops in water supply and ensure regular and equitable water distribution to all consumers in the area, special monitoring teams have been set up in all areas from Zones 1 to 15.
It has already been informed to the public that, when this team conducts inspections, if electric motors illegally sucking water from drinking water connections and public taps are found installed, the motors will be confiscated and strict action will be taken under the relevant legal provisions.
In this situation, when the special monitoring team conducted an inspection the day before yesterday (Sept. 7), it was found that electric motors used to illegally draw drinking water from water pipelines had been installed in M.K.B. Nagar in the Tondiarpet zone, O.T. Bus Stand and Mughappair in the Ambattur zone, Choolaimedu in the Anna Nagar zone, Valluvar Kottam, Greams Road and Trustpuram in the Teynampet zone, M.G.R. Nagar in the Kodambakkam zone, Tharamani in the Adyar zone, Kottivakkam in the Perungudi zone, and Kandanchavadi. As a result, 34 electric motors were immediately seized.
Already, 55 water-sucking electric motors that had been illegally installed only in the Adyar zone have been seized, and so far 89 electric motors have been seized. The owners of the residences in the above-mentioned areas should not use illegal water-sucking electric motors in the future.
Notices have been issued stating that action will be taken against violators under the relevant legal provisions. This is what the report says.
